OLG SLOTS AT KAWARTHA DOWNS “SUPPORTS” UNIQUE BREAST CANCER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

4500 Bras Collected and Donated for “Bras Around the Building” Event

FRASERVILLE, ON
– The patrons and staff of OLG Slots at Kawartha Downs made an unusual delivery today in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Almost 680 gently used bras were dropped off at Peterborough radio stations, Energy 99.7 and Country 105 to help in its unique “Bras Around the Building” campaign. Those bras were added to the others collected from the community over the last four weeks, and more than 4500 bras were strung together and wrapped around the radio station building today.

“When we were approached with this novel idea, I realized this was the perfect way to raise awareness about breast cancer, support family and friends who are currently fighting this disease, honour the survivors and also remember those who tragically lost the battle,” says Tracie Bertrand, Customer Relations Manager at OLG Slots at Kawartha Downs.

As an active sponsor of community events, OLG Slots at Kawartha Downs set up a “bra drop off site” inside its lobby and also pledged to donate $1.00 for every bra collected in the community to the Canadian Cancer Society.

It was no surprise that the patrons and staff of OLG Slots at Kawartha Downs once again showed how truly generous they are with their overwhelming support and donations. “When the campaign launched in September, we had one customer who promised to collect 50 bras, and recently came back with 119 bras and many more customers did the same,” said Bertrand. “But it didn’t end there, our staff challenged family and friends and the bras just kept pouring in. This is truly incredible!”

It was an unbelievable and emotional site when all those bras where wrapped around the radio station building. OLG Slots at Kawartha Downs was proud to be part of this phenomenal community event and to make a donation of more than $4500.00 to the Peterborough and District Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society.

“This is yet another example of how committed the team at OLG Slots a Kawartha Downs is to the community,” said Bertrand. “When the call goes out to support a cause, whether it is for a local charity or for a fundraiser in support of an earthquake on the other side of the globe, our staff always goes the extra mile.”

The bras from this event will be dry cleaned and turned over to the YWCA of Peterborough for distribution.
